One of the few songs I've recorded for which I provided the lyrics myself. Occasionally I'll actually have some inspiration for a song, and sometimes those songs turn out to be pretty good. Not usually, but in this case I think it turned out to be successful.
This was, by far, the most well-produced song on the album. I had lots of ideas for it, including many vocal parts, and I'm very happy with the results. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
lyrics
"What You've Got"
Look at her face
Look in her eyes
Are the tears she's crying tears of joy or sadness?
If you could say
What she needs to hear
You would have the love you've always imagined
But instead you turn away
Don’t you know what you've got is amazing
Don’t you know what you've found you might never find again
If you let her go you'll regret it someday
When you realize you had her but you let her slip away
Look at her now
She's drifting away
Will you really let her walk right out of your life?
Take action now
Before it's too late
Before the love you held so dear has faded
Before her heart can break
Don’t you know what you've got is amazing
Don’t you know what you've found you might never find again
If you let her go you'll regret it someday
When you realize you had her but you let her slip away
And if you let her go you'll regret it someday
When you realize you had her but you let her slip away
(And) now she's gone
Out of sight
You waited too long to tell her
Now she's gone
You're still asking why
You thought she belonged to you
Don't you know (what you've got)
Don't you know (what you've got)
Don't you know (what you've got)
Don’t you know what you've got is amazing
Don’t you know what you've found you might never find again
If you let her go you'll regret it someday
When you realize you had her but you let her slip away
And if you let her go you'll regret it someday
When you realize you had her but you let her slip away
Look at her face
Look in her eyes
Are the tears she's crying tears of joy or sadness?
